Temporarily, DreamLab is being utilized to support research efforts in combating the coronavirus (COVID-19).
DreamLab is a highly acclaimed app developed by the Vodafone Foundation in partnership with Imperial College London. Its purpose is to accelerate research on Covid-19 and cancer by leveraging the combined processing power of mobile phones. The objective of DreamLab is to expedite the discovery of answers, and the more individuals who engage with the app, the faster it operates.
Every day, an immense amount of health data is generated worldwide through medical research. However, access to computing power necessary to analyze and interpret this data is limited. Mobile devices possess a significant amount of untapped computing power that remains idle while they charge overnight. DreamLab harnesses this untapped potential by utilizing the processing power of thousands of mobile devices, including yours, to examine health data specifically for repurposing existing drugs in the fight against cancer.
By leveraging this invaluable resource, DreamLab seeks to identify more effective combinations of drugs that can be tailored to individual patients, thus improving treatments and saving lives. As a participant in DreamLab, you have the opportunity to choose which project you would like to support and also determine the amount of mobile data the app consumes each month (or restrict it to WiFi usage only). The processing power of 100,000 smartphones running DreamLab for six hours nightly can achieve what one continuously operating PC would take 300 years to accomplish.

When you plug in your phone and activate DreamLab, the app downloads small sections of a vast research project from the cloud, calculates the results, and sends them back to the Imperial College London team. The more individuals who use DreamLab, the faster we can identify the most suitable drugs and treatments to defeat cancer. Simply set up DreamLab once, and it will commence working whenever you charge your phone.
